I remembered those days when I was so obsessed with astrology and the first thing I was interested in anyone was their astrological sign. The moment you tell me your astrological sign, I already know everything about you, well in my own mind. Everything about astrology seems so true and very accurate, there was really little or no reason for me not to believe it.
I seem to get along with people astrology says I match with and seems not to get along with people astrology says I am not compatible with. So how does this happen? How does the date one is born determine so much about ones’ personality? It took me a lot of time and searching, in fact I wasn’t even looking whether it was true or not, I was just fascinated about it for its accuracy and precision. How is this happening? How does astrology works?
Well from my own observations and analysis, I noticed that people tend to accept positive attributes ascribed to them, and looking at astrology, every sign is usually described in a very unique and good way, so who won’t accept good attributes ascribed to them? I performed an experiment on myself , I ignored the name of the sign I was reading and assumed it was Scorpio, and it still describes me accurately only to discover it was Aries I was reading and not Scorpio. Our brain automatically accept good things even if they aren’t completely true, we want to make them true so we accept them.
On a closer look, if you look at individual star sign descriptions you would notice that you pick traits from all the star signs at one point or the other. It’s really just the way our brain is, we accept good things ascribed to us even if they aren’t completely true of us.
Ok what about the bad traits described of each star sign that we still accept. Now here is the trick. First you accept the good traits, you have already put your trust in astrology to be a good and accurate tool, or even authoritative, so you automatically accept the bad traits ascribed to you, because you already believe astrology to be true and accurate. If a well known and professional psychologist upon analyzing you, tells you that you have bipolar personality disorder even if you don’t have it, you will start to believe you have it and begin to behave like someone who has bipolar personality disorder, simply because you trust the psychologist to be accurate and authoritative.
That’s just how astrology works. Now to the reason why I stopped believing it. One of the reasons why I stopped believing it is what I just explained above. Another reason why I stopped believing it is because I noticed how I was judgemental to people even before getting to know them. Once you belong to a star sign I didn’t like (example I hated Gemini, Leo, Capricorn and Aquarius) I automatically start avoiding you and not want to have a relationship with you because I think those star signs aren’t cool to be with and so are you. It was really bad, considering that my mum is Leo. Lmao, I couldn’t stop imagining her as a lion and looking at my Dad as a half goat half fish(Capricorn), even one of my sisters is Gemini. So it was terrible. I couldn’t accept people for who they are without looking at them from the painted glass of astrology. It’s just terrible.
To me, and for a very good reason, I think astrology does more harm than good. It would be of immense benefit to you if you stopped believing it. Now that you know the psychology behind astrology and the negative effects of it, you might want to find out the truth about it yourself. At the end of the day, you are still the judge.
