In Neuroscience and Biological Psychology, Human behavior as a result of the human mind is a complex resultant of multiple factors, some of them apparently seem to be related with environment and some with biological factors (Dimond, 2013). Modern research explores that these factors are somehow interrelated with each other.
The human mind revolves around two different kinds of motifs called Descartes and Melville. Descartes advocates the concepts that even more cognitive behaviors are related with biology, for instance, instinct to romance is primarily a biological functions controlled by hormonal secretions which ultimately translates into emotional behavior and feelings. This concept is not new, even Plato was of the view that human is blessed with a rational mind that enables them to behave in response to biological or brain instincts. This concept is the result of brain development spread over a long time.
Human emotions were initially used to be considered as a state of mind but, later on, animals were also included to have such feelings. It was thought that that these state of mind are results of personal experiences under a certain set of conditions. The concept was modified in response to a question that if there are more than one kind of responses under a certain set of conditions, then there is involvement of other factors which are personal to human and are surely related with the brain. Though, the response of brain seems dependent upon the external stimulus, it alludes that the external factors cannot overcome the biological factors.
Nonconscious state of the brain such as emotions is often connected with conscious states such as feelings. Differentiation of conscious or nonconscious process is a difficult process to that give rise to the importance of feelings of the human mind. This differentiation is verifiable in animals as well but its applicability on the human brain is explicit as the feelings are more important for human life, as these affect cognitive behavior.
Most of the times these emotions and behaviors are confused with each other despite their differences. Involvement of science is imperative to understand the involvement of brain whether in physiology or in psychology. The freezing behavior of fear, amygdala, are dependent on brain stimulus and termed as emotional behavior. This understanding of emotional behavior is interlinked with the knowledge of human consciousness.
Few responses of mind are designed to be same in all human thus, these are beyond human control, for example, the response to heat, pain etc. Visual cortex helps to understand such explanations if augmented with visual stimuli and response. Attention controlled response is considered to work with cognitive human behavior. There are many theories that explain such relationships but the most realistic theory seems to be the conscious triggering of stimuli and emotional response of human activates the respective behavior, for instance, fear triggers the defensive behavior. This instinct is helpful for survival, both in human and animals as well.
The brain creates feelings by mixing ingredients of biology, stimulus and experience of the human. For example defensive mode in response to fear in the human being is the effect of the amygdala, brain arousal, and perception of stimulus and start of response. Similarly, other feelings like pleasure, joy, happiness, sadness etc. are also a complex mixture of brain-directed conscious or unconscious response to certain stimuli. It is the human brain that perceive experience after confronting a certain set of situations that translate its response to cognitive behavior (LeDoux. 2015).
